A Proud record of investment and innovation

As one of the UK’s leading rolling stock owners and through-life asset managers, Eversholt Rail has a proud record of investment and innovation in its assets that has delivered tangible benefits to rail passengers, train operating companies and the wider rail industry.

Our continuing commitment and systems approach to innovation - of which the Mark IV Concept Interior and Class 321 Demonstrator are the latest examples – will ensure that Eversholt Rail remains at the forefront of the UK rail market, delivering real added value.

Investment in our existing fleets

IC225 Intercity fleet

The Heavy General Repair (HGR) programme on the Class 91 locomotives and the ‘Mallard’ refurbishment of the Mark IV coaches transformed both the fleet’s reliability and passengers’ experience, setting a standard that continues to be highly rated in passenger surveys and has shaped the requirement for future Intercity rolling stock.

Class 465 re-tractioning

Eversholt Rail’s joint programme with Hitachi to re-traction the fleet was the first such programme in the UK. As well as delivering a huge improvement in traction system reliability, the experience gained by both companies also paved the way for the successful introduction of our new Class 395 fleet

Class 455 on-board diagnostics

The Train Automatic Performance Analysis System (TAPAS) programme with Southern Railway was the first time that an existing fleet had been fitted with comprehensive on-board system monitoring. The detailed information gained resulted in an optimised maintenance regime that has doubled fleet reliability.

Mark IV concept interior mock-up

Building on the strengths of the current Mark IV and working proactively with passenger groups and TOCs, Eversholt Rail has showcased novel system enhancements - including seating design and layout and passenger information provision - that also deliver operating cost savings and enhanced reliability at a significantly lower cost than a new Intercity train.

Class 321 Demonstrator

The Demonstrator shows how high-specification refurbishment and technology upgrades to the existing fleet of Class 321 EMUs can compare favourably with the passenger experience and performance of new trains, at a significantly lower cost.

Innovation in stakeholder relationships

Cross-London Trains

Eversholt Rail is the first ROSCO to secure an external asset management services contract. We will be providing long-term support to Cross-London Trains for the new Class 700 EMU fleet that will operate the core services on the key Thameslink commuter route.

Engaging with our customers

Close engagement with our customers has always been a high priority for Eversholt Rail. Most recently, our partnering charter with Abellio Greater Anglia, established early in their franchise, has provided a framework within which innovative solutions such as the Class 321 Demonstrator will be introduced and trialled in passenger service.

Engaging with our suppliers

Eversholt Rail has established innovative partnerships with its key suppliers. Our long-term bogie management contract with Wabtec Rail was another industry ‘first’ and we have recently agreed a partnering charter with Bombardier. These, and other supplier initiatives, are already delivering tangible benefits to our customers.

Innovation in safety

The rollover rig we developed to improve our understanding of entry and egress issues in the event of derailment has delivered industry-wide benefits to rail vehicle design knowledge and has been used by some organisations for crew training.
